Asus had launched his first ZenFone Max back in 2015 with a focus on marathon battery life. And now, the ZenFone 3s Max packs in a 5000mAh battery as compared to the 4100mAh of its predecessor. There are also slightly better internals and minor design changes in the Smartphone for us to get interested.

Build and Design:

As all the Smartphones of ZenFone 3 series, the build quality of this ZenFone 3S Max is also good. However, it doesn’t have a metal body, but the plastic body feels rigid and sturdy. It doesn’t make you feel cheap at any point. Its 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass dominates the front.

This time around the ZenFone 3S Max, it has some key changes in the design. The first thing you might have noticed is the big hard key on the lower front of it, the kind of key you get in Apple iPhone and Samsung Smartphone. This hard key also works as a fingerprint scanner. Above the display screen, there is the front camera, sensors, and speaker. On the bottom of the Smartphone, there is the micro USB charging port, speakers and two screws on the sides of the charging port, which we also saw in the ZenFone 3 Laser.

Performance Review:

With the Octa-core processor and the RAM of 3GB, the ZenFone 3S Max doesn’t let you down as you expect to get good performance. It performs seamlessly through gaming and day to day work. It has the latest Android 7.0 runs in it, so it’s the first ZenFone 3 series Smartphone with latest Android OS.

Performance while Multi-tasking:

For instance, you can use the split screen feature in the Smartphone, i.e. if you have 2 apps running at the same time then just hold the recent apps key a little longer, and it will show you both the apps on your screen in a split manner. Then you can use both the apps at the same time. It even allows you to watch the videos running in the split screen mode, and do the browsing at the same time.

  • Mostly, multi-tasking on ZenFone 3S Max (ZC521TL) isn’t that smooth, fast and impressive. :/  You can switch between apps, but device gets little lag. It does get a bit slower though when you have more than one apps running in the background.
  • Another drawback here is that to unlock the screen; first, you need to wake up the screen, either by using the power button or by using fingerprint scanner button which you can click. Only after when the screen is awake, the device can get unlock via your fingerprint. Didn’t understand what’s the purpose of this, but it did slow down the speed of unlocking the device as compared to the earlier Smartphones.

Hardware:

The ZenFone 3s Max comes with internal memory of 32GB and expandable by up to 2TB via a micro SD card slot. The phone also supports reverse charging, means it can be used to charge other Smartphone devices too, via OTG. The fingerprint scanner of Smartphone can be used to launch the camera app, or take a picture and also to answer incoming calls. 🙂

Display:

ZenFone 3s Max (ZC521TL)

The ZenFone 3s Max has the dimensions of 149.5×73.7×8.85mm.  It feels utterly big in hands because of its big bezels at the bottom and top and also because it has a smaller width. It has a very fast touch response and is also very smooth to use.

  • Asus ZenFone 3s Max comes with 5.2-inch HD (720p) IPS Panel 400nits and additionally brightness Built-in Bluelight Filter.
  • The Color reproduction in Asus ZenFone 3s Max is awesome even you would say fantastic.

Camera Review:

The ZenFone 3s Max sports 13-MP rear camera with having dual LED flash. Outdoors in daylight, its performance is decent. While the color reproduction of it is mostly accurate, the photos lack some details. The photos are not sharp enough, which will be more pronounced when you go to view them on a 32-inch display. For those people though, who just share their photos on social media sites, this shouldn’t be any problem. 🙂

While, in low-light or indoors conditions, only some of the camera shots come out decent, mostly they are very noisy with messed up metering.

The 8-MP front camera, that manages to shot detailed selfies outdoors, and just about okay ones for indoors.

Battery Life:

Well, this is why Asus ZenFone gave their prime attention to the users when they created the Max in the first place. All of the Max Smartphones in their ZenFone series have performed outstandingly in their competition in respect of battery life. Same with this, the ZenFone 3S Max is no exception. Its 5000 mAh Li-ion battery provides a remarkable battery backup for the users.

ZenFone 3S Max doesn’t support fast charging, so it does take a little above 2 hours to charge completely from 0%. Once the Smartphone gets fully charged, on a regular usage, it can last for two days straight with a little charging left on the third day. No doubt, this is an excellent and unbeatable battery performance for any Smartphone. 🙂

Verdict:

As with the earlier ZenFone series Smartphones, the latest ZenFone 3S Max Smartphone also delivers on the promise having a stellar battery life. This Smartphone hits the right spots with the compact form factor, with an eye-catchy and premium design, High Definition display quality and decent overall performance.

As I faced performance lags while multi-tasking, while playing games, so I won’t suggest this phone for teens or adults, but elder people can have a smooth experience with this and they can choose this smartphone blindly! 🙂
